I decided to take the day off from yard work and do something nice for Barb Thomas and myself. I called and asked her if she would like to go to Kim’s Cut and Style and get her haircut. She jumped on the idea. When I got there she was looking for her glasses, which we did not find. That was just the start of an adventure.

I pulled the car up close to the gate, wheeled her down the ramp and got her in the car. I then went back in to get the walker and her wallet, which I laid on the roof of the car, just till I got the walker in and then, shut the door, climbed in and took off. Yes, I had left the wallet on the roof and didn’t realize it until I got to Fly Creek. I pulled over and looked on the roof, but the walled was not there. I almost expected that. I immediately turned around and started back to Hartwick, searching the road as I went. We got all the way home and did not find it there either. Sooo, Barb told me to drive to Kim’s and we’d look as we went. So as not to waste the day entirely, we both had our haircut and it seemed to help the both of us feel better..

When we got home, I called the Post Office and the Bank and alerted them, giving them Barb’s number. I fixed us some lunch, as I knew she would not if I left. I then walked up and down South and Main streets to see if I could find it. No luck. I was so mad at myself, but Barb did not seem concerned and was now tired. I said my good-bye and went home disgusted.

I went out side under the apple tree, like Irwin and I used to do, and sat there sipping iced tea and watched the birds fly to and fro to the feeder, chirping constantly. The experience comforted me. When I came in there was a message from Barbara on my answering machine-“I got a call from the Post Office. The wallet was found it the outside post box and she should “Come and get it” and come and get it”. THANK YOU GOD!

The Kinney Memorial Library, under the direction of its librarian, Barbara Potter, is making an effort to seek out the community’s thoughts. A survey was implemented and sent out. When they are returned, not only will their suggestions be heeded, but also an individual will have an opportunity to be awarded a $25.00 gift certificate for a book of their choice in the Book Raffle. Alma Baker was the lucky person.

Frederica Hornbeck, one of the library’s faithful supporters, had a birthday on the 23 rd. This was inadvertently left out last week, but it is not to late to call or send a card. I believe the 23 rd.

The Mooshake has taken off with a burst of springtime verger. When I go by on Bernie the Bus headed for work at 8:00am , the parking lot is packed. They hours have pretty much settled in from 7:00am -3:00pm with the kitchen closing at 2:00pm . A wonderful breakfast and lunch menu awaits you in a clean, pleasant and bright dining room. Jeanne said that the soft ice cream is coming in a couple of weeks. She is having a larger window put in out front with a deck! Perhaps I’ll see you there.

Laura Shute decided she did not want to be awakened at 4:00am every morning. Her two roasters went to the auction. Andy had told her not to come home with any more live critters and she didn’t. That day one of her hens did hatch out four chicks!

Joan Hefner, good friend and long time member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church , just had her 80 th birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday to her during coffee hour, she looked great with her new hairdo and was very happy. She was headed to catch a plane the next day to spend some time with her twin sister, Betty, who lives in Cary , NC . The sisters were always dressed alike when they were growing up and the idea following them through school and collage. Joan told us that one time, after along time not seeing one another, they meet again wearing the same outfit! We all get a kick out of her with her little three-wheeler. I call it her Harley Davidson! She had her dark glasses on and high black leather boots. We told her to keep the speed down coming down the aisles.

I got carried away this week with my outside work. I finally finished raking the pine needles off my lawn! I haven’t done it in sometime and I thought it would improve the lawn under the trees. It did, as it is getting greener already. I also trimmed underneath the Spruce trees and was surprised how big they had become over the years. Andy and his Dad planted them when he was nine or ten. I had pine needles in my hair, down my blouse in my sneakers etc. You wouldn’t believe the pile I have now.

Carol Neidzialkowski, Hartwick Town Supervisor, is in Albany Medical Center dealing with massive stroke, which hit her hard a week or more ago. She is responding well although is unable to talk. She communicates with a “thumbs up or thumbs down” method. She and family are hopeful about the future. She is being moved from ICU into a regular room and will be moved to Sunnyview by the end of the week. Our prayers are with you. There will be a donation spaghetti dinner from 4-8pm this Saturday at the Hartwick #1 Fire Hall.

The Hartwick Cemetery is open now and I have been there cleaning it up some. The bulbs have more then jumped through the ground since I took out the Primrose. Even a visit to Fly Creek cemetery proved enlightening. No bulbs have come up but I fear some critter has gotten to them.

The good news that Barb Thomas had related in a message on my answering machine was not as good as we had hoped. The wallet was missing the $40.00 and a credit card but her health card and license were there. I so hoped that the money would be there. If you have second thoughts, you could just mail the $40.00 to her or put it in the Post Box out first of Post Office as before-no questions asked.

The first light rain seems to bring life into everything and in the morning the grass was GREEN! Raking everything sure made a difference. Then it rained Friday, S

Saturday all day and now it is even better. The temperature was 60 Saturday afternoon, but Sunday was damp and cool.

Thought for the Week: Everyday is a gift. Treat it with kindly and share it with Joy.
