WHAT'S COOKIN'?

Nov. 17-24, 2005
I finally had my Stress Echo at Bassett on Monday. I checked in the am to make sure all was in readiness and took note that I was to be at the Cardiology Clinic at 1:30pm. I got there in plenty of time and noted that a number of folks were going in before me. When I asked they said I was next.
Because I was having problems with my back, I decided to have the second of the options, which was, having the drug Dobultamine administered rather then the using the treadmill. Dobutamine shows how well the heart functions, such as the squeeze of the heart at rest, with med and after med. The staff-Jamie, Sue and Janice were right on the ball and the test went well and in a short time the drug took effect and boosted my heart rate to 125 beats a minute. I had no discomfort except I thought my heart would jump out of my chest! I was a little shaky when it was all over, no worse for wear.  I was done in about and hour and on my way home. The next step is when do I have the operation on my foot!
The Dudeck family had a few sudden accidents last week. Ken took off his pinkie finger on his left hand at on the job and ended up holding it in place until he reached the hospital. He was there from 10:30 am till after 8:00pm. The surgeons used micro surgery to reattach it and it is looking well this week. The incidents not only keep him from working, but also from hunting, which he was looking forward too. Within days, Kenny Jr. killed a deer with his mother’s car doing a real number on it. It is in the shop. They are hoping there will not be a Number 3!
Have you had problems with leg cramps or do you have toe or finger fungus? Well, here are remedies for both! Rub Vicks VapoRub on affected toes/fingers for the fungus, and see what happens. It seems to do the trick states Dr. Peter Gott. For the leg cramps- take a bar of soap (large or small, new or used, but not Dial or Dove, and place it under the bottom sheet of the bed in the area of the feet and legs. Go to sleep and see what happens. It is worth a try.Let me know if it helps.
I frequently looked at my clock as I readied myself to catch Bernie Bus for my ride to work. I should have gotten a clue that something was wrong when Andy and Laura stopped by, usually at 7:20am.I drove into work thinking the bus was running late. On arrival, the building was locked, so I went to Bruce Hall and then to the library, WHICH WAS CLOSED! Now I got the hint. I was an hour early! The clock had not been changed to new time!  The clock messed me up. I will take care of that when I get home. I remember putting in a new battery and I guessed I didn’t change the time right.  Dummie!!! I can’t believe I didn’t catch that before now…...
Have you noticed the size of the moon? It hangs in the sky as if it were put there by an alien. It really makes you think how BIG it is and how SMALL we are. . .
Another two deer were hit by cars near by. One had had the antlers removed so it must have been a nice buck, but the meat was left to waste. The future generations of that buck are gone. Watch at all times as Saturday marked this year's rifle season. A keen eye will detect their moving during the day and at night, the deer's eyes give them away when the headlight reach them. BEWARE!
George Kelinger stopped at my place when he saw me washing the windows. He was headed for White House farm, the first of the hunters to arrive. He is looking forward to hunting as last year he had pneumonia and was down for 8 weeks. Good Luck, George.
Tony Rotolo left Oneonta at late afternoon for Albany airport to pick up his brother Steve, who was flying in from Englewood, Florida to join his brothers and Dad for a week of hunting. It was a fond reunion. They did get back to Oneonta till well after midnight and hit the first snow of the season. The "troops" will join at Tony's house for dinner on Friday, where the final plans for the first day will take place. Jessely, his Peruvian wife will do the cooking and that is always great.
Thursday, Bill Barker, The Verizon Repairman came by to check my phone service. The crackling had gotten so bad that I could hardly hear. Guess what? It was the line on the phone that was doing it. He did not have one with him for my phone, so when I can get another it is supposed to be A-OK. If it isn't another call will be made. If you have the same problem, check outthe line from the receiver to the phone. It might save you from the aggrevation I had.
Joe finished peeling and slicing the rest of the apples and Thursday I made a 12 inch, deep well apple and raisen pie for dinner on Friday night. After that I accompanied Joe while he sighted in another gun. It was wicked cold and the wind was strong. We didn't stay long. On the way home we did find another apple tree with apples still hold on it. We'll will get an apple picker and hopefully their will still be there when we return.
Joe and I drove down Route 28 to Oneonta, where we were to join his family for dinner. We were traveling Route 28south outside of Milford. All of a sudden I felt Joe's arm reach over and held me back. I was holding the apple pie! He had seen a deer cross from left to right and then there it was-another one and it was stretched out in front of the car with less then a foot to spare. He hit the breaks and it was enough for the deer to make it to safety and saved us from an accident. It sure shook us a bit, especially me.
By morning there was several inches of fluffy snow on Upper Dutch hill road and just after 7:30pm, the plow had already gone by. The sun came out and soon the road was clear and the night snow had all but disappeared.
I waited for my son-in-law, David Curlis and his wife, Karen, from Argyle, NY for some time. I thought that they would be here at noon, but they did not arrive till 2:00pm. As it was they stopped in Oneonta and had lunch, which I had hoped to supply. We had a nice visit and I got an update on their family and they on me.. I hadn't seen them since Irwin's death last August. We loaded the pickup with the last of Irwin's things-desk, trunk, radio, typewriter and a number of pictures and personal items.  Before I knew it, they were on their way home.
I have so much to tell you, but it will wait till next week. Have a wonderful THANKSGIVING and remember to thank GOD for all your blessings, good and bad. . .
Thought for the Week:   Need a helping hand? Look at the end of your wrist!
