WHAT'S COOKIN'? by Corinne A. Pollak

Joe's daughter, Missy, has had a time. She had just been discharged from Fox Hospital where she had been suffering from a severe migraine, when she experienced another challenge. She no sooner got home discovered that her twin girls both had colds. Isabella, who suffers with asthma, had an awful cough and a temperature of 105 degrees. With the help of a good friend, Stacy, Missy was able to get Isabella to the doctor. Stacy watched Danielle in the interim. Isabella came home and is on an anti-biotic. The twins had just turned 3 years old on Valentine's Day. We are now waiting for an update.

Hazel McShane, 93, asked me to make a dentist appointment for her. She complained of a deteriorating upper plate, which is being damaged by a sharp tooth on the bottom. I called Dr. Lado and made an appointment for her. I will take her and bring her home. She will be fit as a fiddle then.

We had a wonderful trip to the VA Hospital on Tuesday and meet two new gentlemen, with whom Joe had a lot in common. They were of course were in the service and from what I could gather, at about the same time. They talked war, politics and guns. It is a men's thing. . . One invited Joe to come and target shoot at his farm in Otego. Perhaps when the weather warms up, he will take a drive there.

Joe's therapy went well and his shoulder is now slowly being able to have a larger range of motion without experiencing pain. We are seeing what therapy can do. Alton Bistort, his therapist, also was able to help us set up an appointment with the Audio Dept. for as soon as next Tuesday.

I thought I would try to brighten Dolly Hunter's day, when I went to work Wednesday. I bought the cutest little PURPLE fox with pointed ears and a bow. I set it on her computer monitor so when she same in she would see it. She loves purple and was sooo tickled; it made me feel good too.

Nature's Scene: You probably have noticed the deer in the fields now. As the snow melts away it exposes the green grasses and the deer come out in numbers. Oh, I almost forgot. On my way up to Joe's I saw what must have been a hundred plump, orange ROBINS! What a welcomed sight that was. When I arrived, Joe said he had a pair of cardinals and a number of Red-Winged Black Birds. All these and more when spring is in the air. .

Joe has had another visitor. He went to let Patchy out before retiring for the evening and there was a BIG PASSUM eating the kitty's dinner. He stood and watched, which did not bother the possum, apparently hungry. He said it looked to be an old possum and it had been in a confrontation as its tail had been bitten off just a short time ago. The next day, it had been hit by a car just down the road from his home.

Virginia O'Connor had a rough year last year and now she has changed her lifestyle. She moved out of her trailer in New Lisbon and, for a time, she was at Nadar Towers, which did not work for her. She is now at Fox Nursing Home in room 310. I hope to be able to see her this week. Drop her a card and cheer her up.

Saturday was soo beautiful. I hung out two loads of wash, cleaned up around the Ponderosa and investigated the grounds. My daffodils out front are up about three inches. It won't be long now. I will have to take down my Snowman flag and put up my spring flag.

It was quite overcast and a few raindrops were coming down, when I stopped by the Thomas residence. It seemed strange going into Alex's Mom's home. My good friend has been gone little over two months now and there isn't a day goes by that I do not think of her. My head filled with thoughts of her. "Is there anything that you would like of Mom's? I know she would like you to have something," he said with a smile. I had always liked her Baker's Bench and a cute little white porcelain colander with red strawberries on the side and a set of four china teacups came to be mine. We go back in a week or so as perhaps there will be a few other items. I am soo proud of Alex. He had come a long way and his folks were real proud of him too. He is a husband, father, professor, and friend and soon will be rewarded with a special gift from GOD for his good work. . .

I had a feeling that I should check on my late husband's aunt in Johnson City and it is good tat I did. She is one of just a few remaining relatives left and is in her 90's. She was happy to hear from me as we chatted about things in general. She then related that she was going into Wilson Memorial Hospital for surgery this Wednesday. She plays to stay with her daughter, Barbara for a few days and then return to her long time home on Floral Ave. I will check on her later this week.

WOW! How did Katy do it? She got Kaima Nelson Bowne, who has 25 years experience in Chinese theory of the Five Elements-, the foundation of tradition of Chinese medicine, to do a workshop this month. Space is limited so give a call and sign up.

Danny Holtje will be coming home permanently in September after working as a surveyor in Alaska for the U. S. Government. He was hired for a two-and it was an n adventure he will always remember. His family joined him in Anchorage and lived there with him. The children attended school there and did very well. They had to move recently because the home was sold so that was no fun, being so close to leaving. Their parents are very happy that they are returning. The children will return in July. Now that will be a reunion!
