WHAT'S COOKIN'? by Corinne A. Pollak

June 23-30, 2006

Well, here it is another week. Where does the time go? We have had almost continuous rain, no storms, just rain. With a day or so of time to get the lawn and gardens done, it has kept me on my toes. I did get a few things done inside that only get done when I can’t work outside.

My brother, Terry, and his wife, Maureen, up for a few days to welcome the second baseball family that has a youth involved in the Dream Parks Baseball Camp. I believe they were from Texas. They were very happy with the accommodations and are gone during the daylight hours during the week. They stay a week and then the next family arrives. It is a family affair and everyone enjoys. . .

Joe invited Terry and Maureen over for dinner Saturday night. I made a fresh spinach salad and we both helped put together Joe’s specialty- Greek style shreaded beef, onion and Pepperoncini peppers. The beef is first used to make a delicious vegetable/beef soup and then it is shredded and sautéed with chopped onion, garlic and Pepperoncini peppers until all the juices from the peppers evaporate. He likes it on a soft roll. It is delicious and Terry and Maureen liked it too. Joe gave them a tour of the property and both said, “ It is soo quite and peaceful and beautiful here.”

It was nice to hear that Curt and Jackie Akin had a chance to take off for a long weekend to Mt. Washington. They are two talented folks that live just a stones throw from me. Curt is setting up a website for me. I am very anxious to see what he comes up with. He does beautiful work under the name-Syllables. Want to know more? Email him at Curt@Syllables.com.

I got a call from Joan Harrison, the daughter of my deceased hubby, Richard Pollak’s aunt, Pearl L. Pollack of Johnson City, passed away on May 5, which was my birthday. That touched me, as I loved her sooo. I had been trying to see her, but she had had surgery and was not up to visitors. “I’ll see you when you are feeling better”, I said on the phone and now she is gone.

This is just short letter this week. I am taking advantage of the time before the website is set up.

It looks like the sky is clearing. Could it be that the sun will come out?

Thought for the Week: Treasures are often hidden in the most unlikely places.
